Individuals with allergen sensitivities, gluten intolerance, celiac disease and related illnesses will welcome the Gluten and Allergen-Free Wellness Event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., February 2, at the Travis County Expo Center Banquet Hall, in Austin. The event will offer educational presentations and a wide selection of vendors of gluten- and allergen-free products.
Among the speakers are Jennifer Fugo, an expert in gluten-free living who has appeared on the Doctor Oz show, Yahoo! News, eHow, CNN, Huffington Post and Philadelphia magazine; Liesa Harte, a board-certified family practice physician certified in functional medicine; Pam Jordan, a working mom with celiac disease and author of Family Approved Gluten Free Recipes and the blog, I’m a Celiac, which provides gluten-free recipes, product and restaurant reviews, and giveaways; Beth Mincher, a holistic health coach who received her training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and is board certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.
Sponsored by Udi’s Gluten Free Foods, Glutino and Enjoy Life Foods, the event features national companies and local vendors like Snap Kitchen, Better Bites Bakery, Greenling, Red Apple Lipstick and Central Market.
"Availability of high-quality, gluten-free and allergen-free breads, baking mixes, pizzas and restaurant menus has exploded over the last few years, making it much easier and more satisfying to live gluten- and allergen-free, but not all products are easy to find, and they are costly. Our events give attendees a chance to try before they buy," says Nikki Everett, director of Gluten and Allergen-Free Wellness Events and chapter leader of Raising Our Celiac Kids.
